Abstract

Chances are you get a lot of unwanted messages, whether it’s spam or messages from threads, feeds, or newsletters you no longer want to receive. Thanks to some nifty built-in features in Gmail and Microsoft Outlook, you can easily unsubscribe from pretty much any website that’s sending you boatloads of emails, and it’s as easy as clicking a link.

How to Unsubscribe from Email Lists In Your Email Client

Gmail

When you’re in Gmail, you can select More from the left-side panel menu to open a menu item called Manage subscriptions. You should see all of the email lists you’re currently subscribed to, as well as an Unsubscribe option on the right. When you click Confirm, you’re done.

Outlook

If you’re an Outlook user, click Settings and select Mail. You can then select Subscriptions from there to see all the email lists you’re on. Use the Unsubscribe option for any you don’t want to be on anymore.

Don’t Remember Subscribing? Be Careful!

Sometimes you’ll see a message in your email inbox that you don’t remember subscribing to. In fact, you know you didn’t. In situations like this, clicking unsubscribe can be risky.

When you click the unsubscribe link, you’re telling the sender that the email address is active. This signals to them that they can add your email to a bigger list that they can sell. This creates problems for you in the long run. Instead, you can mark it as spam and delete it. This approach works best if you don’t open the message at all.

We hope you use this trick to keep your inbox clean and safe!
