Abstract

Isn’t it funny how, despite there being so, so many emojis to select from, you so often can’t find one that succinctly and descriptively gets your point across? Google has recently added a feature to its Gboard mobile keyboard called Emoji Kitchen.

Emoji Kitchen does what it sounds like and cooks up blends of two emojis for you. Let’s go over how to use it.

Guess what? We can play with it together… all you have to do is search for “emoji kitchen” and click, appropriately enough, “Get cooking.”

Emoji Kitchen Makes It Easy to Create New Options to Share

Let’s play with it for a moment. On your browser, you should see:

  • The options Combine and Explore
  • Two emojis preselected and added together
  • A Randomize button and a Clear all button

Using the Combine option allows you to generate a quick blend of two specific emojis. So, if you select a basic smiley face and a birthday gift emoji, you’ll likey get a smiley birthday gift… certainly not an emoji that was normally available. Similarly, selecting the boxing glove emoji with the same birthday gift produces a boxing glove punching its way out of said birthday gift.

Likewise, clicking Explore and selecting an emoji will show you all the available combinations using that particular emoji.

Emoji Kitchen can also be used on an Android device, provided you’re using Gboard as your keyboard. Once you tap the emoji button and select one, you’ll see generated suggestions in a row at the top of the keyboard.

While not all emojis have been included in Emoji Kitchen, it can be fun to see what’s available and—if appropriate for your particular workplace—share some fun concepts in your chats.
